Key Responsibilities:
- Execute skilled and semi-skilled tasks, including equipment setup, formwork, rebar installation, drywall work, T-bar ceiling installation, concrete pouring, and non-licensed masonry/asphalt repairs related to general building maintenance, repairs, and construction of Solid Waste Management Services facilities.
- Efficiently organize work assignments, ensuring the availability of required materials and equipment under the guidance of a supervisor.
- Manage material requisitions and maintain records of equipment, inventory, and other assets, adhering to established procurement procedures.
- Create and maintain written reports and documentation associated with maintenance and construction activities.
- Operate a variety of vehicles, tractors, forklifts, trenchers, specialized equipment, power tools, and hand tools required for maintenance and construction tasks.
- Perform tasks at elevated heights and within confined spaces, utilizing overhead hoisting devices when necessary.
- Potentially transport work crews to job sites.
- Drive light vehicles to different work locations as needed.
- Provide guidance and coaching to General Handyworkers 2 and 3 for specific tasks.
- Keep the Supervisor informed of assignment status, requirements, and coordination needs.
- Accurately follow CMMS maintenance system procedures by completing Work Orders, reports, work details, and data logging using a computer.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in building and construction practices, as well as the proficient operation and maintenance of equipment that doesn’t necessitate licensed trade services.
- Demonstrated expertise in executing skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to concrete formwork, masonry, drywall, and painting.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “G” Driver’s License issued by the Province of Ontario, along with meeting the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
Additionally, you should possess:
- Physical fitness to undertake the necessary tasks in various weather conditions.
- Capacity to work in dusty, noisy, elevated, and odorous environments while adhering to safety precautions.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, overtime, and be on call when needed.
- Readiness to commute to different job sites within the City, including Pickering and Maple.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its relevant regulations, along with the ability to read and interpret sketches, maps, and blueprints.
- Proficiency in performing general maintenance, construction, and repairs using a wide array of equipment.
- Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces in compliance with established regulations.
- Some experience in leadership and coaching.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as computer literacy.
