Primary Role:

To protect property against theft and vandalism, control access to the facility, maintain order, and enforce regulations at public events and within the facility. This includes arming and disarming building/doors as needed and conducting regular patrols to ensure the safety and security of employees, visitors, and facility assets.

Duties and Responsibilities Overview:

  • Perform scheduled patrol duties as per the predetermined schedule.
  • Report any observations related to damage or environmental issues that may impact security to the Help Desk.
  • Verify that all firefighting equipment and exits remain accessible.
  • Process access requests, including issuing electronic access cards, following Tenant’s instructions.
  • Provide escort services to individuals, including employees, visitors, and sub-contractors, lacking the required security clearance.
  • Prevent vehicles from blocking or obstructing facility entrances.
  • Respond to security requests and emergencies, diagnosing and addressing issues promptly.
  • Generate reports on security-related incidents, providing information, reports, and assistance in resolving incidents.
  • Offer initial first aid responses when necessary.
  • Ensure the accurate completion of daily activity and shift reports, incident and occurrence reports, as well as all required logs and registers in a timely manner.
  • Participate in security audits when required.
  • Respond to emergency calls and assist in bomb threat searches, responses, and handling hazardous substances, including facility evacuations when needed.
  • Monitor fire safety equipment and respond to fire alarms.
  • Undertake relief and additional duties as necessary to support facility operations.
  • Adhere to Company Policies, Procedures, and Quality Assurance requirements while promoting a safe and healthy work environment within the post-holder’s area of responsibility.
  • Fulfill Health & Safety responsibilities by following the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and Health & Safety Management Plans.
  • Support the Company’s Quality Policy Statement and actively contribute to achieving Company and personal Quality objectives.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the level and nature of work within the Department or Service as reasonably required.

Key Qualifications:

  • Three years of prior experience working as a security guard in a customer-facing role.
  • Completion of secondary school education is mandatory, and additional security training would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience with alarm response tracking, preferably within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Possession of a Standard First Aid Certification (Red Cross).
  • Physical fitness is necessary to perform continuous patrols, respond to emergencies, and assist with material transportation as needed.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills are essential for responding to requests, emergencies, and completing relevant reports.
  • Clear and courteous communication via two-way radio and/or phone is expected.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, leading by example in this regard.
  • A valid Security Guard Licence issued by Service Ontario is a mandatory requirement.
  • Ability to successfully pass the necessary Security Clearance Check (CPIC).
