Position Summary
In the role of a Canstar Site Supervisor, your primary responsibility will be to aid and back the Project Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations of construction projects. This includes conducting site inspections, ensuring top-notch customer service, overseeing project teams, monitoring productivity, and maintaining quality control standards. It is imperative that all projects are accomplished within set timelines, budget constraints, and adhere to established quality benchmarks. Additionally, approximately 10% of this position entails engaging in carpentry tasks or addressing deficiency repairs while working hands-on with tools.
Compensation for this position falls within the range of $28 to $31 per hour, contingent upon your level of experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Aid in the creation and review of project scopes to ensure accuracy in work description, labor requirements, and necessary materials.
- Generate a comprehensive materials list for assigned projects based on the finalized scope of work and approved budget.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to establish a task timeline and project completion date through the development of a flow chart.
- Manage the coordination and procurement of all required materials, either through delivery or pickup as needed.
- Assist the Project Manager in the preparation of Request for Proposals, subcontractor selection, and associated documentation.
- Oversee and manage both in-house production employees and subcontractors, maintaining order, organization, and quality control on the job site.
- Supervise extensive loss job sites, including the coordination of staff, subcontractors, engineers, inspectors, and related parties.
- Keep open and regular communication channels with the Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and Production Departments.
- Obtain necessary permits and meet with building inspectors as required for project compliance.
- Provide the Project Manager with detailed accounting support for the billing process, encompassing progress billing, open items, and necessary supplements.
- Complete all essential project documentation, including work authorizations, stage approval sign-offs, and completion certificates.
- Secure signed change orders for any work that deviates from the original estimate.
- Address minor deficiencies to ensure they meet acceptable quality standards.
- Assist in on-site cleanup and removal of debris when necessary.
- Foster and maintain professional relationships with relevant subcontractors.
- Respond to emergency calls promptly and follow through to project completion.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety standards, in accordance with Canstar and WorkSafe BC requirements.
Health & Safety
- Promote and enforce compliance with Canstar’s health and safety practices and protocols among oneself and fellow team members.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to facilitate safe and efficient work processes.
- Familiarize oneself with and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all individuals on-site, including oneself, wear the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when it is mandated for safety purposes.
Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills:
- Proficiency in carpentry with the ability to perform carpentry tasks.
- Exceptional customer service skills, ensuring positive interactions with clients.
- Competence in utilizing Xactimate software, including the completion of checklists, diagrams, and capturing relevant photos for documentation.
- Sound knowledge of construction-related machinery, equipment, chemical applications, industry practices, and mechanical devices.
- Effective interpersonal skills for successful collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in problem-solving, with the ability to tackle complex issues.
- Demonstrated organizational, negotiation, and supervisory abilities.
- Proficient communication abilities in the English language, encompassing both written and spoken forms.
- Intermediate-level proficiency in typing and experience with Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to work independently, taking initiative to complete tasks autonomously.
Qualifications and Background:
- A minimum of 4-5 years of practical experience in the construction and carpentry fields.
- Proven experience in working with diverse types of structures, encompassing residential, commercial, and institutional settings.
- Experience in the insurance restoration sector is regarded as an advantageous asset.
- Possession of a valid BC driver’s license with a satisfactory driver abstract is required. Having a truck capable of transporting materials and equipment is preferred.
- A clean criminal record relevant to the responsibilities of the job is mandatory.
- Prior experience in project management is considered a valuable addition to qualifications.
