Job Description

We are seeking proactive and diligent individuals to join our team in the Food Production department at both the City Campus Central Production Unit and the QMC Campus Receipt and Distribution Unit. These roles involve various tasks such as selecting food items for distribution to patient wards, preparing patient salads, repackaging freshly prepared main courses and desserts, and delivering food to the wards.

The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness and hygiene for all catering equipment and the surrounding areas. This is crucial to ensure that the department meets the expected standards of compliance. Additionally, candidates must possess strong literacy and numeracy skills.

Position 1: The work hours for this role will be 37.5 hours per week, scheduled on a rotational basis, which includes weekends and bank holidays.

Position 2: The work hours for this role will be 22.5 hours per week, scheduled on a rotational basis, which also includes weekends and bank holidays.

Primary job responsibilities

This position offers an opportunity to join a large catering team that operates at both the City and QMC sites. Your role will involve the crucial tasks of packing, preparing, and selecting food items for delivery to patient wards. Physical fitness is a requirement, as you’ll be on your feet for extended periods. Additionally, you’ll need to efficiently process information within tight timeframes to ensure accurate meal quantities are picked and delivered punctually to our patients. While prior experience in a catering or patient-focused environment is advantageous, we provide comprehensive training to all candidates.

Training & Qualifications

Required:

  • Adequate secondary education with a solid foundation.
  • Possession of a Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent expertise gained through experience or training.
  • Proficiency in advanced food hygiene procedures.
  • Familiarity with cleaning and hygiene COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) protocols.

Experience

Required:

  • Prior experience in a customer- or patient-focused setting.

Desired:

  • Experience in catering for individuals with special dietary requirements, including those needing texture-modified food options.

Background Check through Disclosure and Barring Service

This position falls under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Consequently, it will require the submission of a Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly referred to as CRB) to assess any prior criminal convictions.
