Join the JBS Team: General Laborer Positions Available
At JBS, we’re on the lookout for dedicated individuals to become part of our dynamic team, working on our production floor as general laborers. If you’re up for the challenge, here’s what you can expect:
- Work in Livestock Processing: You will operate in an environment where livestock is processed.
- Chill Conditions: Be prepared to work regularly in cold temperatures, often near or below freezing. This includes duties in coolers and loading dock freezers.
- Unpleasant Odors: Some areas may have unpleasant odors.
- Damp and Cold Workspaces: In the fabrication department, you’ll be working in damp and cold conditions, typically ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Extreme Heat Exposure: On the kill floor, temperatures can reach up to 104 degrees, so you must be prepared for exposure to extreme heat.
- Lifting and Physical Demands: You’ll be responsible for tasks that involve lifting, pulling, or pushing objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Knife and Tool Use: The job may entail working with sharp knives or cutting tools.
- Overtime and Shift Flexibility: Be willing and able to work overtime, particularly during the heavy season (August-February). This includes being available for both day and night shifts, as well as Saturdays.
- Fast-Paced, Physically Demanding Work: You will work in or around areas with blood and other bodily fluids. The work environment is fast-paced and may involve repetitive hand and body movements. It can take approximately 5 to 6 weeks for your body to fully adapt to the work conditions, environment, and job requirements.

Physical Requirements for Production Positions:
- Lifting, Pushing, and Pulling: You will be expected to handle loads ranging from 10 to 50 pounds during production.
- Neutral Wrist: The role involves repetitive hand motions and grasping while maintaining a neutral wrist position.
- Reaching: You’ll frequently need to reach for products on conveyor belts using hooks and reach for boxes or bags.
- Standing: This position requires continuous standing for 8 to 10 hours per day, six days a week. On the loading dock, where necessary, you may work seven days a week. Union contract and operational requirements schedule two permitted breaks during the workday.
Loading Dock Job Physical Demands:
Heavy Work: Involves occasionally exerting 51 to 100 pounds of force, frequently exerting 26 to 50 pounds of force, and constantly applying 11 to 20 pounds of force to move objects. These physical demands exceed the requirements for Medium Work.
Very Heavy Work: Requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force on occasion, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. These physical demands surpass the requirements for Heavy Work.

Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize a variety of tools, including knives, steel, and hooks, to complete assigned tasks.
- Maintain the sharpness of knives, with a focus on developing proficient knife sharpening skills, and don’t hesitate to seek assistance when necessary.
- Operate heavy machinery as required.
- Package products by placing them in bags and boxes.
- Ensure the effective use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Be prepared to engage in hands-on work, including lifting loads exceeding 50 pounds, especially during high-speed operations.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work areas and consistently follow established food safety protocols.
- Adhere to JBS specifications for the product to uphold meat quality.
- Occasionally, may be responsible for shaving or washing animal meat before packing.
- Inspect meat and meat products, as well as their packaging.
- Stay vigilant and promptly report any identified hazards to a supervisor.
